We use store-bought, refrigerated, biscuit dough and bake according to the instructions on the package to get breakfast on the table in less time. Feel free to make your favorite biscuits to accompany this creamy sausage gravy.
Ingredients (Serves 4-6)
- 12 oz. breakfast sausage
- 2 tbsp. finely chopped onion (optional)
- 2 tbsp. flour
- 1½ cup milk
- ¼ tbsp. nutmeg
- ¼ tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- Salt to taste
- Hot sauce or black pepper to taste
Directions
Heat skillet over medium high heat and add the sausage and onion, breaking into a small to medium crumble as it cooks. Once the sausage and onion are browned and fully cooked, remove from the pan, leaving at least 1 tablespoon of the fat in the pan. Reduce heat to medium, add the flour, and stir into the fat. Cook for about 2 minutes or until golden brown. Add the milk and seasonings, stirring constantly, for 5 to 6 minutes until desired thickness is reached. Taste your gravy and adjust seasonings to taste. Add the sausage and onion back into the pan and stir to combine. Remove from heat or keep on lowest heat until ready to serve. To plate, pour a generous amount of sausage gravy over each biscuit.
